Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

Want a quick boost of energy without having to reach for the coffee mug? Consider adding a glass of lemon water to your daily ritual. It’s simple to prepare and so delicious!

 

Why should I be drinking lemon water?

 

1.  Flushes toxins from the body. Lemon juice stimulates the liver’s bile production, helping to eliminate toxins out of the body. Drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning will get your digestive tract moving.

 

2. Helps with weight loss. Lemons are a natural diuretic which can reduce water weight and are high in pectin, which can suppress the appetite.

 

3. Strengthens the immune system. Lemons are packed full of vitamins that strengthen the immune system to fight off infections and colds. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the juice of one lemon provides about 18.6 milligrams of Vitamin C. The recommended daily amount for an adult is 65-90 milligrams.

 

4. Reduces muscle soreness. Lemons are have natural anti-inflammatory factors that can help reduce muscle soreness and joint pain.

 

5. Improves skin quality. High in antioxidants, lemons can slow down the aging process by removing free radicals from the body. Their high levels of Vitamin C helps with reduction of wrinkles and adds a glow to the skin.

 

6. Balances pH levels. Lemons are acidic but alkaline inside the body so they help balance the pH levels. This balance helps fight cancer and other diseases.

 

7. Promotes hydration. Water is the best beverage for hydration, but some people don’t like the taste of it on its own. Adding lemon enhances water’s flavor, which may help you drink more.

 

8. Boost mood. The scent and taste of lemons have been proven to boost the mood and energize us.

 

How to make lemon water

In order to get the benefits of lemon water, you must drink it on a consistent  basis. When making it, always use fresh lemons rather than artificial lemon from a bottle.  To make lemon water, squeeze half of a lemon in 8 ounces of  warm or cold water. I use room temperature water. It’s really whatever you prefer. To be as healthy as possible, use filtered water and do not use plastic cups/bottles.

 

To add more flavor or an additional health boost, you could include a few sprigs of mint, some grated ginger, a dash of cinnamon, a sprinkle of turmeric, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, or a few slices of fresh orange, lime, or cucumber.

 

Lemons do contain citric acid, which may erode tooth enamel. To limit that risk, drink lemon water through a straw (not plastic), and rinse your mouth out with plain water afterwards.

I am really enjoying this blog. I am wanting to really make the healthy changes and this is great at giving me tips in small doses instead of overwhelming to the point I stop it all together. I appreciate this very much!!!
